James Michael Houston brings a wealth of both knowledge and experience to Texas Bariatric Specialists.  Having upheld American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence standards and government guidelines at multiple hospitals concurrently in the New Jersey/New York region, Houston has maintained and exceeded expectations at every level of bariatric hospital management.

Houston has managed post-operative bariatric patients from nearly every facet of aftercare and patient management.  In addition to this work, he has also maintained and developed bariatric databases and extensive concierge services for bariatric patients that streamlined an extensive array of surgical testing.

James Houston started his military career in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served from 1986 to 1993 where he retired as a Hospital Corpsman Second Class Petty Officer.  During his various deployments in the Navy, James’ final deployment was during Operation Desert Storm/ Desert Shield.  Mr. Houston has received numerous decorations and letters of commendation.

After a 7.8 earthquake struck the Philipines – triggering the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo- James participated in the evacuation of 20,000 Philippine and US Nationals from what was to be the largest terrestrial eruption in recent memory, as part of Operation Fiery Vigil. During this operation James was able to put all of his combat, and medical training into one situation. As part of this mission he received the Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal for direct support and participation. James regards this as one of the single most significant missions in his military career, showing what a few good Marines and Sailors could do by saving several lives form certain peril.

“Just to see the gratitude in their eyes was the best reward one could get, but the medal only goes to serve as a reminder of the event and the time, when our actions were most noble”, says James.

Additionally he is the recipient of many accolades including being the chairman of the Cranford ASMBS Foundation Bariatric Walk from Obesity campaign for multiple years.

In his free time he is an active citizen serving on the board of My Sistahz Keeper Association, Diamond Scholarship & Charitable Fund Inc, and Chairman of Les Gent’s d’Exquisite/Les Femmes d’Extroadinaire Beautillion/Cotillion Militaire Ball, Kappa Leadership & Development League program for the Englewood/Teaneck Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He also is a Pee Wee/Midget Football coach and team physician.

Houston received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey.
